VISUAL ARTS

The Visual Arts space is bustling with exciting activities at the moment. Students are beginning to move through the art and product making process across all subjects.

YEAR 10 SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

In our Year 10 elective, Sustainable Design, Ms Scott’s class have been learning and developing their sewing skills. On Friday 14 August, Lucy Ho visited the class for a sewing incursion to support the students. This was an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more about textiles and how to bring their ideas to life. Year 10 student Charlotte Davis said the workshop was “really fun and engaging”. It allowed the students to “learn different sewing stitches and techniques like making ruffles and pouches”.

The Sustainable Design class focuses on making products purely from recycled materials. The students will head out on their Op Shop excursion this Friday 21 August and will purchase their materials that they will use to create a new and exciting design.

KUMMARGEE T SHIRT DESIGN

Over at East Campus, our Year 8 Design students have started their work on the annual Kummargee T Shirt Design Task. This year, Uncle Mark Brown has licensed his own artworks for students to use in their designs. This is a great opportunity for students to work alongside an Aboriginal Artist in the design process. The winning T Shirt will be announced at the Junior Art show on Monday 30 November.

YEAR 12 MEDIA

Finally, a huge shout out to our Year 12 Media students who have their final folio due this Friday. These students have been working hard all year to develop, plan, refine and create their own products. A selection of the films created by students will be displayed at Media Night on Thursday 8 October.

I hope to see many of our students, parents and community members there.
