YEAR 7 ICT PROGRAMMING

In ICT, we have just commenced the new revamped programming topic where students will be learning to write code in Python. Students are building on the core concepts learnt during the Algorithms topic and bringing their ideas to life through their programs. A few Year 7 students were generous enough to write about their experiences during this topic.

Mr Enver Bise

Mathematics and Digital Technologies Teacher

Coding is one of the things that we learn in ICT class. I believe that it is the most interesting thing that we have learned in ICT class yet. We first learned how to create text on the screen and how to make the AI voice talk according to our desires. After that, we learned how to colour the text so that our coding can be bright and eye-catching. It was such an amazing experience!”

“In ICT we have been learning about programming with python. Python is a programming tool that we can use. I have learnt a lot of functions, and all have had lots of fun. In class today we have learnt about if statements and else statements.”

WISETECH GLOBAL PROGRAMMING COMPETITION

The competition was advertised on Compass calling all avid programmers in Years 9-12 and was free to all Australian participants.

WiseTech Global opened the platform, calling all Year 9-12 students to participate in their WiseTech Global Programming Competition. The prizes consisted of cash prizes and visits to their Global HQ in Sydney. For top Year 12 performers they offered an opportunity to interview for their Earn and Learn program.

If students are interested in programming, they should keep an eye out on Compass or the Newsletter for upcoming competitions.

For further information, students can contact Ms Ho (hmn@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au) throughout the year or log in to Grok to check out all of the available courses using the student’s McKinnon email address.

This was what WiseTech had on offer:

WiseTech Global Programming Competition 2026 took place on Friday 14 August - Saturday 15 August.

To test your programming skills, or to launch a career in tech, you could have won the following prizes!

  • Over $30,000 in cash prizes

  • Exclusive visits to WiseTech Global HQ in Sydney - one of Australia's top tech companies

  • Top performers in Year 12 could receive an offer of interview for the WiseTech Global Earn & Learn program - where Year 12 school leavers get to kick-start their tech careers by being paid to work with industry experts at WiseTech while they study for their computer science degrees.

This competition is recommended for Years 9-12, but if you’re younger and an avid programmer, you’re still eligible for prizes, so give it a shot; go for it!
