PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

BOOK WEEK

What a busy fortnight it has been across our college community. Last week, it was an absolute pleasure to celebrate all things reading and literacy during Book Week. From lively debating and creative baking to trivia and fantastic dress-ups, our students demonstrated the many ways reading can transform and enrich our lives.

Thank you to our wonderful English faculty for creating such incredible opportunities for our school, particularly Dr Day and Ms Condell.

MARKET DAY

That same spirit of initiative was on full display during our student Market Day, which was a huge success as students sold their crafts, baking, and homemade goods to their peers. Well done to everyone involved, with a particular note of thanks to Ms Hammond for her wonderful coordination behind the scenes.

EVENING EVENTS

Our co-curricular calendar has been bursting with talent. Our Year 11 cohort had a fantastic time at their Year 11 Games Night last Friday, while our performing arts students demonstrated their incredible talent during both Woodwind Night and the Year 12 Music Night.

STATE SCHOOL SPECTACULAR

We also celebrated McKinnon’s involvement in the State School Spectacular. Congratulations to James Suntoso (Orchestra - Violin), Gabrielle Sae-Teo (Orchestra - Violin), Itay Volnerman (Rehearsal Stage Manager), and Jacob Papanotas (Vision) for brilliantly representing McKinnon. 

We were equally proud of our ten Year 7 students - Mireille Gianna, Seorin Ham, Mackenzie Jackson, Claire Liew, Julian Meyer, Nibedita Sarker, Ella Serebrianik, Airaa Shivendher Velu, Aditi Sirpa, and Saar Tadmore - who performed beautifully in the 1,200-strong Mass Choir. 

A special acknowledgement goes to Ms Zoe Bartholomeusz for her role as a satellite conductor for the Mass Choir. Thank you to Ms Bugeja for accompanying our students and especially Ms Laura Main for coordinating such a memorable experience.

PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT CONFERENCES

I remind all families about our upcoming parent-teacher-student conferences on Tuesday 8 September and Thursday 17 September. Normal classes will not run on these days; instead, teachers will upload lesson plans to Compass for students to complete when they aren't attending their online interviews. Bookings close this Sunday 6 September, so please log into Compass soon to secure your time slots.

MCK RESPECT COMMUNITY EVENT

We are looking forward to bringing our school and wider community together for McK Respect 2026 on Friday 11 September at Packer Park. In partnership with Glen Eira Old McKinnon Football Club, the event will feature a mixed community football match and a 16-minute walk at half time, bringing students, staff, families and community members together.

McK Respect reflects our ongoing commitment to building a culture of respect and equality, and recognising the important role that schools, sporting clubs and communities can play in creating positive change. We encourage our community to join us as we stand together with a clear message: there is no excuse for gender-based violence. 

FINAL TWO WEEKS OF TERM 3

As I will be taking leave for the final two weeks of Term 3, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your ongoing support throughout the term and wish all of our families a relaxing, safe, and wonderful holiday break.

During my absence, our leadership team will ensure the smooth running of the school: Week 9: Peter Quinn will step into the role of Acting Principal and Week 10, Kellie Felmingham will serve as Acting Principal for the final week of school.

Thank you once again for a fantastic term, and I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for Term 4.
