GAMES NIGHT

Games Night for the Year 11 Cohort was a blast; it was amazing to see so many smiling faces with these delightful games. These funds from the tickets bought went directly to The Shepherd Foundation, a charity that funds medical research throughout Australia.

Thanks should be awarded to not only the games night committee, who primarily planned the night, but also Ormond Ice Creamery, the AV team and the Year 11 student managers for funding and supporting the event. I hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the night itself. The energy with all the games, from the doughnut-eating contest to the musical chairs and baby photos.

MARKET DAY

If you ever want to know what peak controlled chaos looks like, you should have been at McKinnon Road and East Campus on Wednesday 26 August, during lunchtime.

It was Market Day - Interact Club's flagship event of the year!

The vibe across both campuses was electric. Wandering past the rows of stalls, it was impossible not to get caught up in the energy of the crowd. We had students from every year level setting up shop and diving headfirst into the action, turning a simple lunch break into an amazing opportunity to pocket some hard-earned cash of their own.

The range of items on offer was unreal. Stalls piled high with warm brownies, iced cupcakes and freshly baked cookies sat alongside stalls stacked with intricate crocheted plushies, custom keychains and handmade jewellery that looked as though they had come straight from a weekend market.

True to Interact Club's mission, all that hustle was also supporting a bigger cause. 

Stallholders kept the lion's share of their earnings, while Interact Club collected 10% of every stall's profit to donate to charity. This meant participants walked away with pockets full of cash while simultaneously running mini fundraisers to help the club support a great cause!

An event of this scale doesn't just magically happen, so it deserves a massive shout-out. A huge thank you goes to the Interact Club leadership team and our supportive teachers, who worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly, as well as every single stallholder who brought their energy and creativity.

Thank you for helping to pull off one of the most unforgettable lunchtimes McKinnon has had all year!

JUNIOR PUBLIC SPEAKING

On Sunday 30 August, the public speaking team led by Miss Barakat, competed at the Speech and Drama Teachers' Association of Victoria (STDAV) competition. It was truly a successful and enjoyable day, with our McKinnon students competing across a variety of heats, including monologue, poetry, junior and senior public speaking. We competed in the last heat of the day - junior public speaking. This was an engaging and strong finish to the competition, and in total, McKinnon brought home four honourable mentions, a 3rd place, a 2nd place, and one Gold overall. 

Beyond the results, the day inspired us with many intriguing performances that led to thought provoking discussions among the team. Despite some fierce competition, there were many friendships and bonds built over laughter and food. 

On behalf of our entire public speaking team, a huge thank you to Miss Barakat for always being there for us and supporting us through every opportunity. As the final event of this year’s public speaking season, STDAV served as a memorable conclusion to this brilliant year of six total speaking competitions. While we are sad to see it end, we are excited for next year and strongly encourage future aspiring public speakers to take part in this program!

YEAR 9 FRENCH EXCURSION 

The Year 9 French Excursion attended the NGV Cartier exhibition on Friday 28 August.

The three Year 9 French classes listened to a presentation about the history of Cartier, learning about the designers and some specific pieces in the exhibition. We then toured the exhibition, enjoying the sparkling and innovative pieces.

After the Gallery visit, the students took part in a Scavenger Hunt style of activity, where they had to find a selection of French businesses. Once they located the business, they took a selfie out the front and answered some questions. It was a great day out.
