CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

The start to this term has been electric! We kicked off Term 3 of 2026 with the inaugural McKinnon Big Freeze event, which was wholeheartedly embraced and celebrated by the entire McKinnon community. The event included teachers from a range of different faculties dressing up and getting dunked in icy cold water to show support for and raise awareness of motor neurone disease (MND) research.

We were also fortunate to receive support on the day from the MND Foundation, which provided huge Big Freeze beanie inflatables that further showcased our initiative to raise as much money as we could for this critical organisation.

We were also fortunate enough to welcome an incredibly special guest, Jan Daniher, who not only came to meet the captains and teachers running this event but also stayed throughout the entire event, interacting with students and teachers and explaining the importance of school events like this in creating a sense of community for those who feel isolated by this disease.

The atmosphere was incredible, and the day was a roaring success. Thank you to all the teachers who participated in the icy dunking, to Ms Jobson for supporting us throughout the entire process of organising this event, and to all the students for donating and showing their support to help end MND.
