ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS' REPORT

PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT CONFERENCES
Term 3 Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences will be held on Tuesday 8 and Thursday 17 September. Teachers will be available for five-minute conversations with parents/carers and students. These interviews will be done remotely using Google Meet. Normal classes will not run on these two days; teachers, however, will be leaving lesson plans on Compass. This ensures students have work to go on with at home when they are not attending their online interviews. The booking system will open on Tuesday 18 August at 10am and will close on Sunday 6 September at 5pm.
GETTING TO SCHOOL ON TIME
Over the last few months, we have noticed a significant increase in the number of students who are arriving late to school. This is concerning because arriving late causes a very interrupted start to the school day and this has a significant impact on student learning.
All students need to arrive at school by 8:30am. The locker bell rings at 8:35am and class begins punctually at 8:50am. This gives students plenty of time to get their books from their locker and be ready to learn for Period 1. If your child is late for any reason, please notify the school via a Compass Attendance Note. Otherwise you can email absences@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au, call our Attendance Officers on 8520 9050, or provide a handwritten note. If no explanation has been received they will be issued with a lunchtime detention.
We kindly ask that parents/carers speak to their children about the importance of arriving at school by 8:30am each day. Please consider ways to help your child with this process, for example, getting them to organise their uniform and pack their bag the night before.
Finally, the back gates at both campuses are locked at 9:15am each morning so if students arrive after this time they must enter through the main gate near the General Office.
Thanks for your support with this important matter.
UNIFORM
Our updated uniform policy was shared with families recently and is publicly available on the College website. We take great pride in our uniform and the role it plays in building a positive and inclusive culture which aligns with our school values. It is critical that all students wear their uniform correctly and we thank parents for their ongoing support with this important matter.
STUDENTS RIDING BICYCLES TO SCHOOL
Please ensure your child wears a proper bicycle helmet when riding to school and they take extra care when travelling the narrow streets of McKinnon. We are very worried that some students do not exercise sufficient care on the roads. In addition, it’s crucial that students lock their bike up when leaving it in the bike shed.
We also ask all parents/carers to drive and park cautiously around the College before/after school, and to be mindful of the many students riding bicycles to and from the College.
Please note, students must not ride scooters or skateboards to school.
