JUNIOR CAPTAIN

It has been another busy and exciting time around the school, with plenty happening across our campuses.

On Saturday 12 September, the Year 9 French students headed off to New Caledonia for an exciting language and cultural experience. We wish them a safe and enjoyable trip and hope they make the most of the opportunity to practise their French, experience the local culture and create some great memories together. We look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return!

We have also had a fantastic Health & PE Day on Wednesday 2 September, with students across the school getting involved in a range of activities focused on health, wellbeing and physical activity. It was great to see everyone getting into the spirit of the day, with all students wearing their sports uniform and participating enthusiastically throughout the day.

Some Year 9 students have also had the opportunity to travel interstate and stay with Indigenous peoples as part of the Red Earth program. This program provides them with an opportunity to learn, challenge themselves and develop their understanding through experiences far beyond the classroom. We hope everyone involved will enjoy the program and take away some valuable experiences.

Finally, we have also had Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for students, parents and teachers to come together, discuss progress and celebrate achievements. Thank you to our teachers and families for their time and support.

As always, it has been wonderful to see our school community getting involved in so many different opportunities. We look forward to everything still to come this term and much more next term!

SENIOR CAPTAIN 

It’s hard to believe the year is flying by, especially for Year 12. At this point, we have so few official school days left that we could count them on our hands, although I’m sure the number of practice exams we have coming up will require a few more fingers.

The past few weeks have been an exciting and meaningful time for the McKinnon community, with a number of events bringing students together highlighting the importance of respect. The Respect Football Game and half time Respect Walk provided a particularly powerful opportunity for our school to come together and raise awareness for gender-based violence and the importance of creating a culture built on respect and equality.

It was fantastic to see students and staff and the wider McKinnon community getting involved, supporting the message and showing that we all have a role to play in creating a safe and inclusive community. A massive thank you to everyone who helped organise the event, as well as those who participated and supported the various activities throughout the week.

The Respect Walk was a great example of our community standing together for an important cause. Seeing students and staff come together and walk with a shared purpose reinforces the idea that meaningful change starts with the choices we make every day. From the way we speak to one another, to the way we support our friends, we can all contribute to a culture where everyone feels valued and respected.

Alongside these events, it has certainly been a busy period for our senior students. With Year 12 practice exams approaching during the upcoming holidays there is no doubt that many students will be using the break as an opportunity to prepare, revise and familiarise themselves with exam conditions. While practice exams can feel daunting, they are an important opportunity to identify areas for improvement, build confidence and develop strategies ahead of the end of year exams.

I would like to wish all Year 12 and Year 11 students the very best with their preparation and encourage everyone to make the most of the holidays while also taking some time to get some well-deserved rest and recharge.

With plenty to come this year, I hope everyone continues to make the most of every opportunity and support those around them. For the Year 12s, I hope you enjoy these final weeks together. I want to wish all students, staff and families a fantastic remainder of the year and a safe and relaxing holiday break.
