INTERMEDIATE BOYS CRICKET

Our Intermediate Boys Cricket Team has capped off an outstanding year, finishing 2nd in the state after a thrilling finals campaign.

In the state semi-final, the boys faced Catherine McAuley College and produced one of their most determined performances of the year. Chasing a competitive total, our openers took them to all sides of the ground smashing boundaries. Their composure and clean stroke play guided the team home and booked a well-deserved place in the final.

The state final saw our boys take on a strong Rowville outfit. Despite a spirited team effort, Rowville proved just a touch stronger on the day, prevailing by 20 runs. Our boys fought until the very last over, showing resilience, teamwork and pride.

Finishing 2nd in the entire state is an exceptional achievement. The team should be incredibly proud of their performance, sportsmanship, and the way they represented our school throughout the year.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS CRICKET

In a display of skill and talent, the Intermediate Girls Cricket Team secured a memorable victory in the State Finals, bringing home the coveted championship title.

In the semi-finals match, the team was chasing 128 runs. Captains Ishi Tiwari (Year 10) and Riva Guliya (Year 10) led the team to an easy victory alongside Anushka Mehta (Year 8) by securing the win in 10 overs. Falak Syeda (Year 8) demonstrated her incredible bowling prowess by shattering the stumps on her bowl.

In the final match, McKinnon batted first and set a strong target of 196 runs. Ishi Tiwari once again led the way with a resounding 96 runs. The team then demonstrated why they deserved the title of state champions with elite fielding and bowling to win by a comfortable 90 runs.

Well done to all students who were part of the team on the day and in the lead up to the competition!

YEAR 8 SOFTBALL

On Thursday 13 November, the Year 8 Softball team travelled to Jells Park to compete in the State Finals. They started the day in impressive form, opening with a dominant 28–14 win over Alamanda K–9 College. Carrying that momentum into their second match, the team displayed outstanding skill and composure, with excellent pitching from Sienna Cabrita and Eva Kentera and sharp catching from Tegan Du Toit contributing to a 28–10 victory against Bass Coast College.

Their final pool game brought a tough contest against Balwyn Secondary College. The girls fought hard against the team that would go on to win the championship, narrowly going down 21–17. This result secured them an impressive 3rd place in the state - a fantastic achievement and a testament to their teamwork, determination, and growth throughout the season.

Congratulations to Sienna Cabrita, Tegan Du Toit, Renee Landini, Abby Muyemba, Lexi Watts, April Thomas, Amelia Virgona, Ella Graham, Eva Kentera, Amelia Behrendt, and Mia Lyubic.

The girls had a wonderful season, and we look forward to seeing them back on the field next year!

YEAR 8 GIRLS TABLE TENNIS STATE FINAL

On Wednesday 19 November, the Year 8 Girls Table Tennis team (Olivia Renz, Riham Russel, Aryahi Temurnikar, and Anastasia Udriste) travelled to MSAC to compete in the State Final after qualifying through the Southern Metro Region Finals earlier in the year.

After a tough day of competition, playing some very experienced teams, our girls won one and lost two matches, finishing third in their pool, and unfortunately, missed out on the semi-finals. However, everyone should be proud of their effort for making this far and trying their best throughout the year. Well done girls!

YEAR 8 GIRLS HOCKEY

On Friday 14 November the Year 8 Hockey Girls competed for the state title. They started the day strong beating Maribyrnong Sports Academy 2-0. The girls then won their next game convincingly 10-0.

We knew our last game would be our toughest game yet against the reigning state champions from last year, Balwyn who beat us in 1 on 1s last year in the final.

Unfortunately, the game ended in a 0-0 draw and went to the 1 on 1s again where we unfortunately went down to the champions.

Overall, what an incredible day by these girls and they should be so proud of their efforts this year!

YEAR 8 GIRLS AND BOYS TENNIS

Last Thursday, 20 November, both the Year 8 Girls and Boys competed in the State Tennis finals.

Unfortunately, we got a little unlucky in both fixtures to be up against two of the toughest schools in the pool stages.

Our girls started with a tough match up against Maribyrnong Sports academy, where we lost 2 sets to 4. We then won convincingly, winning all the sets in our second game against Leongatha. Last matches were against Balwyn which we fought hard against, but we also lost 2 sets to 4.

The boys also started with a tough matchup against Bayside College who have a tennis academy program and after some tough rallies we won 4 sets to 2. Then the boys had a pretty easy match against Lowanna and won all sets convincingly. Last match we knew would be our toughest match yet against Rowville which was a playoff to see who would finish 1st and 2nd. Our loss then resulted in us finishing second in our pool.

The boys won the Semi Finals convincingly winning 3 out of the 4 singles matches, meaning once our first double won, we were straight through to the final. In the final they played Rowville again to claim the state title. With some hard-fought tennis and some incredibly long rallies the boys came out on top winning the State Tennis Finals!

What an incredible day from both teams and it was great to see some amazing tennis alongside great sportsmanship from both teams! Congratulations on the amazing achievement!

YEAR 7 TENNIS

The Year 7 Girls Tennis team attended the SMR State Finals on Friday 21 November. The first-round match in Pool A was against Maribyrnong who were an extremely strong team. McKinnon lost their matches but had some excellent rallies.

The second-round match was against Drouin, and McKinnon won all their matches, only dropping one game over all six sets!

The last round was against Balwyn, which was a very close match up. McKinnon lost on games after drawing 3-3. Bella Chen and Isla O’Ryan both won their doubles and singles matches, with Isla coming back to win from 3-0 down!

All girls put up a strong fight and should be really proud of not only their matches, but the way they conducted themselves with their sportsmanship.

YEAR 7 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL STATE FINALS

Year 7 Girls Volleyball played in the SSV State Finals on Friday 14 November.

Excellent teamwork and skills resulted in wins against Mickleham SC, Alexandra SC and Holy Trinity College Horsham.

Finishing top of their pool, the girls progressed to the Semi-Finals, narrowly losing in a close 3-set match to Keysborough SC.

They finished the day 3rd in the State. Well done girls.

VOLLEYBALL VICTORIA JUNIOR OPEN (VVJO)

On Tuesday 11 - Thursday 13 November the Volleyball Victoria Junior Open (VVJO) for Years 7-9 was held at Dandenong Stadium.

McKinnon entered 13 teams and had a huge success coming home with a number of medals.

It took a whole lot of solid training and teamwork, and the athletes have all improved so much it was awesome to see.
