MEDIA NIGHT 2026
On Thursday 8 October 2026, McKinnon Secondary College hosted its annual Media Night in the Alan Lawrence Theatre, celebrating the creativity and hard work of the VCE Media students.
The evening showcased an impressive range of student media productions including short films, music videos, documentaries and print designs such as photography, graphic novels and comics. Students, staff, friends and family enjoyed a Hollywood inspired evening viewing the works and cheering on the Year 12 award winners, presented in true “Oscars” style.
Award Recipients:
Best Picture: Matthew Shelley - The Man Who Tickles
Best Cinematography: Lucas Radford - Hooked
Best Narrative: Rhapsody Borrirak - Time Crunch
Best Print Production: Lucy Green - Pine Gully
People’s Choice Award: Matthew Shelley - The Man Who Tickles
The event was inspiring and motivating for our younger students who may choose to take Media Studies in the future. Media Night not only celebrates creativity but also offers valuable insight into the possibilities of storytelling through different media forms. For anyone considering Media in 2027, this event demonstrates the exciting and fulfilling nature of the creative subjects in the Visual Arts.
Special thanks to Peter Quinn, Chris Babidge and 2025 alumni Delilah Vlasak Galante who served as judges for the evening. Additional thanks to Leisa from the Visual Arts faculty, Van and Frank from facilities and the MAV team for their support in facilitating this wonderful event.
Well done to Anna Bourke and Eliza Portelli for all their work with the VCE Media students this year.

SENIOR ART SHOW - SAVE THE DATE
Students and staff from the Visual Arts faculty invite you to the opening night of our Senior Art Show on Thursday 12 November. The award ceremony will commence at 5pm sharp in the Alan Lawrence Theatre followed by a tour of the exhibition in T Block.
All members of the community are invited to attend and celebrate the incredible work of our Senior Art Students.
YEAR 7 ARTISTS MAKE THEIR MARK
Last term, our talented Year 7 Art students worked hard to hone their foundational drawing skills. They kicked off their creative journey by exploring the fundamentals of observational drawing, learning to carefully capture the world using axis lines and ellipses to communicate form.
To bring their two-dimensional sketches to life, the students delved into mastering complex tonal values and the vibrant power of colour. The art studios have been a bustling hub of hands-on experimentation as these young creators pushed the boundaries of traditional techniques. From the rich, bold textures of oil pastel and charcoal to the precise, delicate detailing of coloured pencil and fineliner, they have enthusiastically embraced each new medium.
We are incredibly proud of the dynamic portfolio of work they have developed and look forward to sharing their artistic growth with the school community at the Visual Arts Show later in the term.
