CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NHT GENERAL MATHEMATICS CLASS OF 2026!
A huge congratulations to our Northern Hemisphere Timetable (NHT) General Mathematics students, who completed their final examinations on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 May.
This dedicated class began their Unit 3 studies in Semester 2 of 2025 and have worked diligently throughout the program. Alongside their SACs and assessments, students have balanced sporting commitments, theatre productions, formal preparations, and the demanding lead-up to examinations, which contribute 60% of their final study score.
We are incredibly proud of their effort, resilience, and achievements, and warmly congratulate them on the successful completion of NHT General Mathematics.

BIG DAY IN
On Thursday 7 May, 44 of our students traded the classroom for an exciting excursion to RMIT, accompanied by Ms Lee, Mr Bise, and Ms Ho, for a day fully immersed in the world of technology.
The event was alive with opportunity. Students had the chance to connect with industry professionals, university representatives, and innovators at the forefront of the technology sector. From hands-on demonstrations of the latest tech to meaningful conversations about careers, degrees, internships, and work experience, the day offered something to inspire every student.
A highlight for many was hearing firsthand from those not too far ahead on their own journey - university students currently undertaking graduate internships and rotations, who shared their personal experiences and answered questions with genuine insight. It was exactly the kind of real-world perspective that helps our students make informed decisions about their futures.
Read on to hear what some of our students had to say about the day:

On Thursday 7 May, the Unit 1/2 Applied Computing students went on an excursion to RMIT University for the Big Day In. We had people from eight different industries in IT come over and explain to us about what they do and how IT is used. These industries included the AFP (Australian Federal Police), who spoke about cybercrime and hacking; Wisetech Global, who talked to us about software development and the Earn & Learn program, the Westpac Group, who explained how technology has shaped the banking sector; as well as many other speakers.
My highlight was learning about the soccer robots & virtual worlds, where we were exposed to humanoid robots that are able to play soccer without the assistance of a person controlling them! Overall, it was great fun and really interesting to learn about the huge world of IT.

It was a great opportunity to visit the Capitol Theatre as part of the RMIT Big Day In. The many company presentations given at the event gave me a wonderful opportunity to gain greater insight into potential job opportunities after completing my VCE studies at McKinnon Secondary College. They also presented some of the many different pathways that could be taken in order to get into these courses.
The presentation given by Claudia on behalf of the Australian Federal Police, ‘Flipping The Script on Hacking: Using Your Skills for Good’, was one that particularly interested me as it brought to my attention a possible career option that I potentially hadn’t considered previously. I was really interested in the depth of information provided by the presenters as it gave me a better insight into what goes into preventing cyber criminals, in particular phishing schemes.
