HEALTH

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
Hello from the Health Faculty.
This year we have certainly kicked off with Melbourne’s four seasons in one day and this makes it challenging to decide what to eat or pack in our lunchboxes on a daily basis.
In Year 7 Food Technology we have started to learn about the Australian Dietary Guidelines:
Guideline 1
To achieve and maintain a healthy weight, be physically active and choose amounts of nutritious food and drinks to meet your energy needs.
Guideline 2
Enjoy a wide variety of nutritious foods from these five groups every day.
Guideline 3
Limit intake of foods containing saturated fat, added salt, added sugars and alcohol.
Guideline 4
Encourage, support and promote breastfeeding.
Guideline 5
Care for your food; prepare and store it safely.
We have been looking at the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (AGTHE) and the different nutrients your body requires to live a healthy active lifestyle across the different stages of life.
Year 7s have spent time researching and investigating a variety of interesting lunchbox ideas to share with the McKinnon Secondary College community to assist in providing interesting options to make and pack, with recipes attached for you to replicate these at home. We will continue to learn and develop our skills and techniques throughout the semester to build our knowledge and understanding of a healthy lifestyle.
