PERFORMING ARTS
STRINGFEST - BRIGHTON SECONDARY COLLEGE
On Tuesday 30 May, 32 eager Years 7-9 string students headed off to Brighton Secondary College for the annual Stringfest event. This is a wonderful Music Festival where 93 students from 8 regional schools made up a very large string orchestra. The day was conducted by the esteemed Chris Kopke, who had the students working hard but also having fun. The students rehearsed a variety of pieces and then made recordings in the final session. Thank you to Clare Bugeja for organising the event and Georgina Mead for attending on the day.
SENIOR CONCERT - MAIN CAMPUS
On Tuesday 30 May, the Senior Ensembles Concert was held in the Assembly Hall at the Main Campus. The concert featured 132 students performing in a variety of senior ensembles, including Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Senior Stage Band, Choir, Senior Singers and Chamber Ensembles. Thank you to the ensemble directors and music staff for their preparation of the students, and to Clare Bugeja for the overall organisation of the concert.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY ORCHESTRA PERFORMANCE
Our Orchestra, masterfully conducted by Tracy Videon performed at the recent General Assembly.
Starting off with a rousing rendition of the Australian Anthem, with Mabel Green (Year 12) as a soloist, the ensemble then set the tone for the Assembly with a wonderful interpretation of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance no.8.
EAST CAMPUS CONCERT
On Wednesday 7 June we had an absolute privilege to welcome some 450 parents and 300 musicians to the first 2023 East Campus concert. Once again, the gymnasium proved to be an acoustically accommodating space that allowed the students to shine.
Tremendous gratitude to Year 8 Strings, Year 8 Bands, Keenan Strings, Ovenden Band, East Choir, World Music Ensemble, the Percussion Ensemble, and the Intermediate Stage Band who all worked extremely hard to present such a great concert. Thank you to all the ensemble directors and music staff for preparing students this semester.
GIGS ON THE GREEN
On Friday 2 June, Buzzkill had their debut performance on the A01 stage. This included Max Wiseman (Year 12) - drums, Antonia Darmos (Year 12) - bass and Declan Martin (Year 12) - guitar.
They performed an energetic set with the audience demanding several encores. Well done to this power trio.
