CAPTAIN'S CORNER

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

The past few weeks of term have been busy and engaging at East Campus, with a range of events and activities highlighting the enthusiasm and involvement of our junior students.

Last week, Level 2 of East Campus was buzzing with excitement as Year 9 students prepared for the Languages Expo, showcasing their learning to the wider school community. The event was a great success. Hallways were filled with chatter as students explored the different stalls, each showcasing a distinct aspect of a country’s culture, traditions, and lifestyle. It was clear to see the enthusiasm and effort that had gone into both learning and sharing this information. The strong turnout reflected how interesting and well-received the expo was, and it was fantastic to see such genuine curiosity and interest in cultures from around the world.

Congratulations to all students who took part in the Year 9 Languages Expo. The creativity, commitment, and effort that went into each display were truly impressive.

In other news, Year 9 students recently attended an informative Drug and Alcohol Awareness presentation delivered by Michael Raydan. Michael captivated the audience, encouraging students to reflect on the choices they make and the impact those decisions can have on their future. Through sharing his knowledge and experiences, he highlighted the serious consequences of substance use while also providing practical advice on maintaining a healthy and positive lifestyle.

The presentation left a lasting impression on many students, with Michael’s message serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of making responsible choices and looking after our wellbeing. On behalf of the Year 9 cohort, I would like to thank Michael for taking the time to speak with us and for sharing such valuable insights.

Meanwhile, Year 8 students continue to progress through the semester with a range of engaging experiences, including highlights such as the Year 8 Kummargee Sports Challenge, which has been a fantastic opportunity for participation, teamwork, and school spirit.

SENIOR CAPTAIN

With Term 2 now at its midpoint, it feels as though the year is passing in the blink of an eye. The past few weeks of the term have been filled with energy, involvement, and a strong sense of community across all year levels.

One of the key highlights of the past few weeks was National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June), during which our school community took part in a range of meaningful initiatives. Cross-campus Sizzles provided opportunities for connection and conversation, alongside Wear It Yellow Day, which supported awareness and fundraising for Children’s Ground. Collectively, these efforts raised approximately $3,000.

At the recent General Assembly, Gus and I had the honour of presenting the cheque to the CEO of Children’s Ground, Jane Vadiveloo. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support in making this possible. This year’s theme, ‘All In’, is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day, and it served as a powerful reminder of the importance of ongoing action, learning, and reflection.

The term has also continued to be enriched by our music program, which has showcased an outstanding level of talent, dedication, and school spirit. The Year 12 Music Night and East Campus Concert were both standout events, celebrating the hard work of our musicians and the vibrancy of the performing arts within our school community, with incredible talent on display across both evenings.

This period has also been an important academic time for our senior students. With many senior students currently undertaking their mid-year exams and attending the GAT preparation assembly held earlier this month, I would like to wish all our senior students the very best of luck as they complete these assessments.

Looking ahead, there are still many exciting events to come, including the Year 12 Annual Trivia Night, which the Senior School Council and School Captains have been working diligently to organise. It has been a privilege to contribute to these initiatives, and I look forward to seeing our school community continue to engage and come together as we move through the remainder of the term.

As the year continues to move forward, it is these shared experiences of learning, service, and celebration that continue to shape our school community and make this year such a memorable one.
