VISUAL ARTS
TOP ARTS SHORTLISTED: SOFIJA LUKAC
Earlier in the year, Sofija Lukac (Year 12) was featured in the Newsletter article as "artist on the rise" for her first outcome/artwork of her final year of studies. This artwork exhibited at Brunswick St Gallery for the fifty squared prize.
Fast forward to December, Sofija has finished her Secondary studies and continues to make waves as a young practicing artist. Sofija was recently recognized by the McKinnon community at our annual Senior Art Show. She was awarded Mr Kan's Principal Award for her final Art Creative Practice artwork, "Veil between worlds."
Furthermore, "Veil between worlds" has now been shortlisted for Top Arts 2025. An exhibition at the NGV that features the most exceptional work from students from VCE students in 2024 as part of their season of excellence. Being shortlisted is no small feat, with over 1200 works being viewed for selection.
This recognition is a testament to Sofija's enduring resilience and dedication to her artwork. As Sofija's teacher, I can attest that there were moments when doubt crept in and the original vision seemed unattainable. Undeterred, Sofija persevered, reimagining her work and pouring countless hours into its creation.
Congratulations, Sofija! And best of luck in your artwork being considered as a finalist for 2025 Top Arts!
