THE YEAR 9 KINDER PROJECT: DESIGNING FOR USERS

The Kinder Project was a spectacular experience for the both of us! In Year 9 Visual Communication and Design, we had the opportunity to turn this learning task into a community project. Working with the Guardian Childcare & Education Centre and the adorable kinder children was a pleasure!

In this project, we got to work with little kinder children. We visited the childcare centre to get a grasp of their learning environment and we were given the task to help them engage in learning through designing either storybooks, flashcards and more! We have decided that Lego-themed colouring sheets would be perfect for these youths.

Not only we had the opportunity to work with younger children, but also were taught numerous concepts such as stakeholders and copyright. This prepared us for the real world when dealing with clients. During the design process, our critical thinking and problem-solving skills were put to the test; we had to develop a new brand name because Lego was already copyrighted.

Eventually, the kinder children adorably dawdled across the school to reach us. With their supervisors, they collectively sat around our table as they tested our colouring sheets.

Lego and Duplo bricks were also brought in so they were entertained the entire time. It was so lovely and wholesome to see them enjoy our prototypes!

In essence, the Kinder Project made it one of the most memorable times for us. It gave Visual Communication and Design a unique experience. If the Guardian Childcare & Education Centre staff is reading this, thank you for coming in and making this project worthwhile!
