CHILD DEVELOPMENT EXCURSION FOR YEAR 10 HEALTH
During our Youth Development topic in Year 10 Health, we visited Valkstone Primary School to help with a grade 6 Physical Education class during their athletics unit. This assisted in our learning about the topic of Childhood Development by observing and interacting with the Grade 6 students, whilst linking to the five dimensions of health and wellbeing.
We helped the students with long jump and discus. This assisted us become more aware of the way children react and develop in different environments. We were split into two groups, half helping with long jump and half helping with discus.
I was doing long jump and measuring the different lengths that students were able to jump. This allowed me to observe how children differed in their physical ability. I also was able to see how the children coped with the challenge mentally and emotionally, with some facing it directly and others taking a more apprehensive approach to jumping.
