CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year! As Unit 3 comes to a very welcome end, we are all looking forward to a well-deserved holiday. For many Year 12 students, last Tuesday’s GAT provided their first taste of Year 12 exams, with everyone gracefully conquering this milestone and taking their first exam experience in their stride. I would also like to extend a big congratulations to all Year 10 and 11 students who have just completed their mid-year exams, showing such resilience and determination.

Amid the busy assessment period for all, the Year 12 Trivia Night provided a much-welcomed opportunity for students to unwind and enjoy some friendly group rivalry. Teams put their knowledge to the test across a wide range of categories, with plenty of laughs and memorable moments throughout the night. The event brought the year level together and highlighted the strong sense of community that has developed throughout the year.

Students in the Year 10 and 11 cohorts recently participated in the Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman programs, taking part in important conversations surrounding mental health, relationships and emotional wellbeing. These sessions encouraged students to reflect on the pressures young people face and highlighted the importance of empathy, vulnerability and supporting those around them. Through open and honest discussion, students were able to develop valuable skills and strengthen the sense of connection within their year levels. A massive thank you to the amazing presenters from Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman, as well as the staff involved in organising the sessions, for providing such a valuable and impactful experience for our students over many years.

As we reach the halfway point of the year, I would like to wish all students, staff and families a safe and enjoyable holiday break. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to relax, recharge and spend time with family and friends before returning refreshed for an exciting second semester. With plenty of opportunities, events and achievements still to come, I am excited to see what the remainder of the year has in store for the McKinnon community. Whether you are preparing for exams, representing the school, or simply making the most of your final years at McKinnon, I encourage everyone to continue embracing new experiences and supporting one another. On behalf of the Senior School Captains, thank you to all students and staff for their enthusiasm and contributions throughout the semester. I wish everyone all the very best for the remainder of the year and look forward to celebrating many more successes and memorable moments together in the months ahead.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

As another busy and rewarding term draws to a close, I would like to congratulate all students who have contributed to the many successes and achievements across East Campus over the past few weeks.

A special congratulations goes to our Year 9 students who recently completed their Wisdom and Service Community Service Projects and proudly presented their work at the Expo Night on Wednesday 17 June.

Throughout the term, students demonstrated initiative, creativity, and a genuine commitment to making a positive difference in the community. It was wonderful to see everyone confidently share their projects with parents, staff, and peers, showcasing not only their hard work but also the valuable skills they have developed in collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership.

I would also like to acknowledge our Year 10 students for their outstanding contribution to the Subject Expo, held during a double-period Wisdom and Service session. They generously shared their experiences and insights with Year 9 students as they begin considering their subject selections for next year. Thank you to all Year 10 students who presented and answered questions, helping younger students feel informed and confident about the opportunities ahead.

Another important event held on Thursday 11 June was the East Campus Concert. Students from Years 8 and 9, alongside performers from Willoughby Girls High School, delivered an exceptional evening of music and entertainment. The dedication, practice, and courage required to perform on stage were evident throughout the concert, and every performer should be extremely proud of their achievements. Thank you to the music staff and all those involved in making the event such a memorable success.

I would also like to recognise the enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed during the Year 8 and Year 9 House Lunchtime Basketball Competitions. It has been fantastic to see so many students participating, supporting their teammates, and representing their houses with pride. The competitions have created a positive and energetic atmosphere around the school, and we congratulate all players for their teamwork, determination, and house spirit.

These events are a reminder of the incredible talent, leadership, and sense of community that exist within East Campus. Whether through service, academics, the performing arts, or sport, our students continue to embrace opportunities to grow, contribute, and support one another. I congratulate everyone involved and look forward to celebrating many more achievements in the year ahead.
