CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN
They say Year 12 goes quickly and already, that feels true as we reach the midpoint of the term.
For the Year 12 cohort, the past few weeks have been incredibly busy. We began the year with our final school camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort, setting the tone for a memorable final chapter. Despite the blistering heat, the energy across the three days never wavered. From the giant swing to team challenges, camp provided moments of challenge, laughter and genuine connection.
Canoeing quickly became a highlight, particularly when Mr Howe took to a paddleboard and skilfully tipped canoe after canoe. Above all, the camp captured the community and shared experience that defines the spirit of Year 12.
The celebrations continued at our Year 12 Formal at Caulfield Racecourse, shared with the Year 11 cohort. It was an evening that truly lived up to its anticipation. Seeing everyone dressed up and celebrating together made it a night of genuine joy; a chance to embrace the excitement of our final year before the pace intensifies. I would like to thank the Year 11 and Year 12 Student Management Teams, along with the Principal Class, for organising such a successful and memorable event.
Meanwhile, McKinnon Road Campus continues to bustle as Year 7 and Year 10 students settle into new routines, while our Year 11 cohort begins the year with focus and determination.
Finally, I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge how honoured I am to serve as one of the 2026 School Captains of McKinnon Secondary College. The announcement of the East Campus Captains was also a significant moment for me, as my brother Chamath was also selected as the Junior School Captain of 2026.
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and committed to serving our school with integrity, purpose and pride. I look forward to working alongside the Class of 2026 and my fellow captains to make this a year defined not only by success, but by unity and lasting impact.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN
It’s only been a couple of weeks into the term and East Campus is already bustling with excitement and new opportunities as the year begins.
Recently, chatter and music filled the corridors during the East Campus Clubs Fair. Curious Years 8 and 9 students explored the stalls, speaking with volunteers and discovering the many clubs on offer. The afternoon was a fantastic opportunity for students to get involved, try something new and engage with the vibrant co-curricular community we are fortunate to have at McKinnon.
Over the past few weeks, Year 9 students have also been completing their Morrisby profiles. The Morrisby program provides valuable insight into students’ strengths, interests and potential future pathways. By reflecting on their results, students are able to better understand themselves and begin considering the opportunities available to them. Those who have provided consent will soon participate in follow-up interviews to further explore their profiles and gain deeper guidance.
Our annual Swimming Carnival which was held on Wednesday 25 February is always a highlight of the school calendar that brought the entire campus together in house spirit and celebration. With this year’s theme, “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”, we saw the creativity and enthusiasm reflected in students’ costumes. It was a wonderful day of energy, pride and community.
Most importantly, I would like to express how honoured I am to serve as the 2026 Junior School Captain. It is a true privilege to represent East Campus, and I am committed to leading with dedication, integrity and pride. This role is especially meaningful to me, as my sister Maleesha is also serving as the 2026 Senior School Captain. Across both campuses, we are excited to work together in strengthening our school community and striving for excellence.
