MELBOURNE SCHOOL FUTSAL TITLES - YEAR 8 GIRLS

On Thursday 30 March, the Year 8 Girls Futsal team set off to Victoria University to compete in the 2024 Melbourne School Futsal Titles, almost a year after their success in the Football Victoria Futsal Champion of Champions 2023.

Their first game was against Kew, where their hard work and determination paid off securing the girls a 5-1 win. Similarly, throughout their second game against Taylors Lakes, the girls put in their best effort and displayed their skills and teamwork, resulting in a win of 6-2.

Coming into their 3rd pool game, the girls knew it was going to be a challenge. They played well and fought hard however they lost the game 1-2. It was great to see how the girls bounced back from this loss and continued their hard work ethic throughout their next two games against Sirius College under 14s, a 10-2 win and then for their last pool game against Sirius College under 13s, a 2-0 win. This sent the girls through into the semi-finals.

Coming up against Taylors Lakes in the semi-finals was a challenging game where the girls fought for the entire game and gave it their best effort. However, the final whistle blew with a score of a 4-5 loss for the girls.

As a result of the girl's tremendous persistence and diligence, all six of the girls were selected to represent Victoria with the Australian Futsal Association in Brisbane later this year!

It was impressive to see how well the girls worked together with their enthusiastic work ethic throughout the duration of the tournament and the way in which they represented the McKinnon Secondary College.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The McKinnon Athletics Carnival will this year take place on Thursday 18 July at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. It is a compulsory whole school event and is a fun day with most staff and students getting involved in the track and field events and dress ups.

This year the theme is Nostalgia: Childhood memories. Students and staff are encouraged to dress up in favourite outfits from childhood, as fictional characters, or anything else that brings back memories from younger years. No need to sign up for events, just show up the day to the events to get house points.

It is always a great whole school event, and we look forward to seeing everyone there.

In the event of inclement weather, the Principal Team may make the decision to dismiss students early. If so, notification will go out to parents via Compass.
