SCHOOL NEWS - YEAR 7 CAMP

YEAR 7 CAMP

Please find below student reflections from Year 7 Camp that took place from 15-19 April which involved two separate groups attending for three days.

Camp was at Phillip Island Adventure Resort this year and it was absolutely amazing! Activities and cabins, movie nights and talent shows, rap battles and no sleep, this really was a one-of-a-kind camp.

Camp activities were great: giant swing, canoeing (in the rain), surfing, archery and so much more. Although the weather at Phillip Island didn’t agree with us at times, we did all the activities we were meant to do whether it be rain or shine. By far my favourite activity (and I think I speak for most people in the cohort) was the giant swing, an 18-metre giant that took people’s stomachs away from them if they went on it. But there was also surfing, which many people hadn’t done before, it was so fun. Even though there was some falling involved nobody gave up and by the end a fair few people were able to stand up on their boards!

There was also a talent show in which people did all sorts of weird and wacky things. There were “The Swifties” who sang “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. There was a rap battle that caused some oo’s from the crowd and an opera performance of “Feed the Birds” from Mary Poppins. There were many more fantastic performances, but this piece would be too long to mention them all.

The bus ride home was bittersweet, we were going home! But we were also leaving camp and to be honest I think everyone loved camp in their own special way. This camp marks a landmark in our Year 7 journey and another one in our high school journey, to many more camps to come!

Truly, the Year 7s had so much fun on their recent Year 7 camp. From Monday 15 April to the 17 April, the 1st group of Year 7s went to Phillip Island Resort, followed by the 2nd group who went on camp from Wednesday 17 to 19 April. Even though we endured some raining days, we persevered through and made lots of new memories. With a wide variety of activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Personally, my favourite activity was the surfing because it was a first time experience for me and it gave me the opportunity to be out of my comfort zone. Not only were the activities amazing, but it was also a great time to make new friends and during this camp, I made a lot of friends and built new relationships which I can now take back to school. Another one of my favourite events from camp was the talent show. Not only was it entertaining to watch but it was also a great time for the whole year level to come together.

I would love to thank our amazing student managers and Ms Same, who organised our camp and ensured it ran so smoothly, but also all the lovely teachers and peer support leaders who came with us!! We couldn’t have done it without them! This camp will be a core memory which I will continue to remember.
