EDUCATION PERFECT GLOBAL LANGUAGES CHAMPIONSHIP 2024: A Week of Linguistic Triumph

Get ready to put your language skills to the test! 

The Education Perfect Global Languages Championship 2024 is set to ignite a week of competitive learning and fun from Tuesday 7 May to Tuesday 14 May. Students will have the exciting opportunity to earn points by answering questions correctly across any of the Education Perfect Languages content.

Participants can earn a point for every correct response they provide, with the chance to revisit questions the next day for new points. However, remember to pace yourselves - there's a cap of 8 hours of competition per day.

Our school has a stellar track record in this prestigious event, consistently finishing in the top two positions worldwide. This year, we aim to continue our legacy of success and showcase our linguistic prowess on the global stage.

The competition officially begins and ends at 10 AM on the respective dates, and students are encouraged to participate during their recess and lunch breaks in designated areas: A Block (McKinnon Road Campus) and V2.3 and V2.4 (East Campus). Not only will this be a fun challenge, but it's also a chance to compete alongside friends and win exciting prizes for your efforts.

As we wrap up the championships, participants will be honoured with certificates, recognising their dedication and hard work.

Amidst the excitement of the championship week, don't miss the Global Education Perfect Languages Championships 2024 Fiesta! This special event will take place in the Hall on Thursday 9 May from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. It's a fantastic opportunity for students to gather as a community, engage in friendly competition, and enjoy some delightful surprises.

Please bring your charged laptop to participate actively. Also, we need to plan for adequate teacher supervision, so we ask all interested attendees to fill up this Google Form to confirm your participation.

GERMAN EXCHANGE

The German exchange is almost over, and we are all excited to hear more about it when they arrive home. We have already been seeing their news on the school’s Facebook and Instagram @mckinnonsc.

YEAR 9 FRENCH STUDENTS WORKING ON SPEAKING TASKS

Year 9 French students have been preparing to take part in a role play welcoming a French-speaking person into their home. They must give their visitor a tour of their home and explain routines and planned activities. Here are some of our 9.1 French class working on memorising some of what they want to say.

NEWS FROM THE LANGUAGE LEADERS AT EAST: INTERVIEWING THE NEW LEADERS

Last term we interviewed new additions to the Language Leadership Community. The interviewing process was a thorough one to find only the best candidates. 

We began with one-on-one interviews, asking questions such as ‘What are some ideas for the future that would contribute positively to our Language Leadership Community?’ After the interviews, the current Language Leaders and Madame Lynd came together and discussed the applications and through each other's input selected our new leaders.

YEAR 9 FILM EXCURSION: FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL

On Thursday 21 March, Year 9 French students took a trip to South Melbourne to see a movie at Como Palace cinemas for the French Film Festival. We watched a film called Divertimento, which was about two sisters who moved to a upper class town to pursue their passion for music; a girl who was an aspiring conductor in a society that didn’t see women fit to conduct, and her sister, a talented cellist who wanted to become a professional, but was also turned down from a competition due to her gender. 

It was a beautiful movie and we all had lots of fun.
