ICT
It’s been a busy start to term 1 2024.
All of the students have been working hard to adapt to new courses, being back at the McKinnon Road Campus or starting fresh at the school!
Below are some of the testimonials from our students.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
The first few weeks of the VCE Applied Computing class are quite challenging. Many students scratched their heads in confusion while others furiously gazed at their computers trying to figure out solutions. The first topic of Applied Computing was Spreadsheets, the skills we have learned are: IF Statements, Data Validations, VLookUps and more useful features using Microsoft Excel.
The courses are nothing to be undermined on. Some may say it’s pointless, but it’s fun, nevertheless. The highlight of our class was learning how to use VLookUps. We learned how to access some of the world’s most enjoyed technologies. VLookUp provides the user the pleasure of leisure where it automatically matches the specific data in a daunting Excel sheet. It provided ease and bestowed us with the efficiency we were accustomed to in our everyday lives.
As Applied Computing students, we believe that technology is the future and we are the drivers that drive this force forward. A contagious mind, indeed. Though, we couldn’t have done this without the help of our teacher, Mrs Lee.

Year 11 Applied Computing
In Year 7 ICT we got to set up Stile, Typing.com and other websites on our Chromebooks and monitors. We learnt how to send emails to teachers properly, figure out our Google Drive, set up our Chromebook and learn how to type. We did the typing lessons on the monitors so we could get used to the different feelings of each of the keyboards.
Outside our Chromebooks, we had to set up the desktop computers and learn how to sync them to our Chromebook settings, so the progress we make on the desktop computers are also saved to our Chromebooks. In our first lesson, we got to celebrate Chinese New Year and talk about the culture behind it!

Year 7 ICT
In Semester 1 ICT 2024, the Year 7s have been learning how to utilise their Chromebooks. We have been figuring out how to set up our devices with the help of our IT teachers. During these sessions, we have been learning things such as bookmarking tabs, logging into useful applications, and adding the final touches in Google settings. All these lessons have been extremely informative to us, as the ability to navigate computers is becoming more and more needed.
In general, we have enjoyed our ICT sessions at McKinnon. We have learned a lot about operating with our Chromebooks. These sessions have tremendously helped us understand and cooperate with our computers. Although it has only been a few weeks we have already acquired more than we have ever known about our baffling computers. The students who are skilled at operating the computers are helping their peers and bringing a stronger sense of community to Year 7 classrooms, even without knowing everybody's names yet!
