CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

As we approach the last few weeks of Term 1, students are able to reflect on what is for some, the start of a long journey through high school and for others, the beginning of their final year of schooling. Regardless of what stage students are at in their schooling journey, one thing is very important and that is connections that are formed with others.

There are many events and activities in which students are able to do this, one of the more recent ones being house basketball. Broken up over the course of two weeks, Monash, Chisholm, Gilmore and Flynn battled it out to see which house would reign supreme in the world of basketball at McKinnon. In both the Year 7 and Year 12 competitions, Monash took on Gilmore in one semi-final and in the other, it was Flynn versus Chisholm.

The results were the same for both year levels as Chisholm comfortably beat Flynn and a buzzer beater that was later ruled out sunk the Year 7 Gilmore students’ hearts to give Monash the win in Years 7 and 12.

Then came the final and with all the anticipation set in, Chisholm were able to stand their ground and defeat Monash on both occasions, crowning them as the McKinnon Basketball champions for 2025.

Year 7 House Basketball Final

For the Year 7s, this was a great opportunity for them to meet new people and bond over a common interest while for the Year 12s, it was potentially one of the final chances they will have to play in a game with some of their closest friends that they have made over the last five years, hopefully a memory that will not be easily forgotten for all who participated.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

On Wednesday 19 March, our school hosted the annual House Music Festival, a vibrant and lively event that showcased an array of talents in instrumental music, choral performances, and dance. The energy in the Hall was electric, with students cheering passionately for their respective houses, creating an atmosphere of unity and excitement.

It truly was a night to remember with house spirits soaring through the roof, as students poured all their energy into their performances. Monash, winning the overall hearts of the judges, took home the victory, but every house left the stage with pride, knowing they had given their all. Irrespective of winning and losing, everyone clearly showed passion and happiness while on stage. It was obvious that the main goal for this event was fun, which many students had. Seeing smiling faces, laughter and cheering fill the room with a sense of school spirit.

The hard work and commitment of all four houses was evident in every performance, going to before and after school rehearsals and devoting their time into making the event a grand celebration of talent and teamwork. Whether on stage or in the audience, everyone played a role in making the night an unforgettable experience, reinforcing the strong sense of community and passion that defines our school.
