CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

With the 2024 year coming to an end, we give a massive farewell to the Year 12 cohort, one I am so lucky to have been a part of. With exams wrapping up and lockers being cleaned, they are soon to be filled once again by the up-and-coming 2025 cohort. VCE Orientation week starts next week which is an extremely important time for our soon to be Year 12s and Year 11s. It's a great way to start off your last year of schooling with your best foot forward, giving you a taste for the exciting year to come.

Applications for the future school captains and leaders are also underway. I strongly encourage everyone to get in there and give it a go, even if you aren't successful, it's an amazing opportunity and great learning experience. My time as a Deputy School Captain and Flynn House Captain has been nothing short of incredible.

I want to thank all the amazing students I've worked with (FLYNN: Senin Seymour, Rajit Kalra, Kyla Peel) (SCHOOL: Gisele Hennequin, Jack Sweeney, James Kay, Adem Savran and Chloe Apps) as well as the incredible teachers working closely with us, big shout out to Jobo (Ms Jobson) who’s been a rock for our leadership team for 2024. Big shoutout to Dougie (Ms Douglas) as well for running such an incredible Captains’ Corner, keeping us all on track.

Since this is my last Captains’ Corner, I want to wish the best of luck to the future candidates and captains of our school. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I have and really cherish the opportunities granted to you. If there's one thing that's true about Year 12 at McKinnon, it's that time certainly doesn't slow down. Soak up every minute.

Bo Fox, Year 12 Student

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

The Great Victorian Bike Ride has been a staple event at our school for years. We’ve experienced extreme heat and week-long storms but the energy of about 60-90 Year 8s, 9s, 10s and teachers has never wavered. As of writing this the second day of the 40th Anniversary GVBR comes to a rainy end.

Last year was my first Great Vic and I found it to be one of the greatest school camps that McKinnon offers. A 9-day bike ride through the state of Victoria; what a dream.

On Sunday 24 November, our 2024 McKinnon team rode 74km from the border town of Albury-Wodonga to Myrtleford. We persevered through rolling hills and mounting rain to yet another day in another town.

Next year the Great Victorian Bike Ride will take on a new look and with it a brand-new group of McKinnon’s best riders. Hope to see you all join next year! It’s truly an experience that you will never forget.
