INTERMEDIATE GIRLS CRICKET

McKinnon Intermediate Girls cricket competed for the Kingston division title. With a strong team, with a balanced bowling attack and deep batting line up, they faced up against Westall SC.

Deciding to bowl first McKinnon knocked over Westall in 8 overs, only needing 10 runs to win. Comfortably reaching the target in 2.5 overs without loss, McKinnon now had opportunity to rest up in the shade, which was needed on a 34-degree day. Facing Sandringham in the final, McKinnon, confident after their first match bowling performance, won the toss and decided to bowl again. Sandringham managed to last the allotted 15 overs, however only managed to score 19 runs after a dominant bowling performance. McKinnon managed to chase the runs down in 2.5 overs.

A fantastic team effort, with all girls contributing to the field, supporting each other, and representing the school with respect and commitment.

Captain: Arshia Arora

INTERMEDIATE BOYS CRICKET

The Intermediate Cricket team played a round robin against a slick Brighton, Bentleigh and Parkdale team.

Fortunately, we were able to play well and qualified into the finals. We lost the toss and played against a talented Mordialloc team.

McKinnon triumphed and are off to the regional finals. Congratulations to all involved!

SENIOR BOYS CRICKET

The Senior Boys Cricket team competed in a round robin competition of 2x 8 over pool games where we won v Bentleigh SC.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to chase down Parkdale’s competitive score of 78. A combination of some erratic bowling and shot selection contributed to finishing 2nd in our pool. We won the play off v Beaumaris to finish 3rd overall.

SENIOR GIRLS CRICKET

On a rain splattered Thursday in February, twelve Senior Girls Cricketers played Beaumaris Secondary College at King George.

Captain Olivia Smith (Year 12) won the toss and decided to bat. Ishita (Ishi) Tiwari (Year 11) and Clara Lovell (Year 12) opened the batting, and the master strokes were on full display from the very beginning. Six 6s and five 4s later, Ishi was caught out going for a hook shot. Her remarkable innings of 58, with only two dot balls, set the girls up with the perfect start. In came Riva Guliya (Year 11), and her 40 runs combined with Clara's steady 8, contributed to McKinnon's final score of 120 runs for the 10 overs. A great innings.

Beaumaris struggled to get runs early, with excellent opening bowling from Olivia and Riva. Captain Smith shared the bowling responsibility amongst most of the team and the wickets started to flow!

With two wickets from Lara O'Brien (Year 12), and wickets to Clara Lovell, Lila Singh (Year 12) and Aria Daya (Year 12), the girls stood up when it counted most and kept Beaumaris to only 42 runs after their 10 overs. A convincing win!

A fantastic day of women's cricket, with good vibes and great energy. Well done girls!

On Tuesday 24 February, we head to Ray Dore Reserve to play the match winners of Cardinia.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL

We’re excited to be holding our school swimming carnival on Wednesday 25 February at Carnegie Memorial Swim Pool!

This year’s theme is “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!” - and we’d love to celebrate everything that makes Australia special.

Students are welcome to wear costumes or colours that represent Australia in any way, whether that’s national colours, sporting heroes, iconic foods/landmarks, or something from the many cultures and communities that make up our wonderful country.

Further information will be communicated to parents/guardians regarding the timing and drop off for students for the day.
