WELCOME TO YEAR 8 SCIENCE AT EAST
The 2025 Year 7 cohort have had a seamless transition across to the East Campus making for an excellent start to 2026.
So far, students have had a refresh of essential science skills, as well as a deep dive into data and how best to present this information precisely within a laboratory report.
Our first practical exercise was a team challenge to create the tallest paper tower possible (using limited resources) that could safely support a Year 8 science textbook. Please see the attached photos to view the successes witnessed in class.
The next practical task had students observing their teachers conducting an investigation in total silence! Groups watched closely as teachers ran through the task twice. The aim of the task was for students to write their own ‘method’ and redo the investigation to assess the capacity of their procedure and its ability to replicate their teacher’s results.
Our core focus when exploring these activities is to build a solid base of skills and experiences that can be applied to future science subjects.
